Tim Ash's PubCon New Orleans 2013 sessions were about understanding the buyers' thought processes rather than focusing on the technology.

Tim gave tips on how marketers can increase conversion rates by understanding the irrational brain:

1. Keep Things Simple

Presenting a lot of similar choices will only stress out your customer's brain. Create categories that customers can drill down through instead.

Forms also be kept short and simple. Use progressive disclosure - ask only for information which are appropriate depending on where the customer is in the sales funnel.

2. Use a Big Anchor

Calibrate your customer's brain to a higher price by showing products from the most expensive to the least expensive.

3. Speak to Your Target Audience

Make your customers pay attention by speaking their language through headlines, writing style, and imagery.

4. Use Visuals that Support Your Call-to-Action

Visuals either support or distract from your desired action. Avoid using stock photos and use motion only when necessary.
