Are Freshness and Usability at Odds?

There’s a piece of advice SiteTuners backs for landing pages: think inside the box. Follow conventions, use proven persuasion methods like social proof and scarcity, and make it dead simple for the visitor to accomplish what he or she came for.

But what about freshness, curiosity, and delight?

Is a practical application of usability the death of fresh web sites? Are design interactions supposed to serve as a task aid for the visitor, or should they aim to do more? Should design capture curiosity, and aim for delight - above and beyond known visitor tasks?

Join Tim Brinton, Experience Design Director of Motivate Design, as he discusses those questions and talks about design principles with SiteTuners in "Designing Fresh Websites that Motivate Users." Watch as he dissects expected and unexpected interactions in today’s web landscape.
